The Department of Economic & Energy Development for the Association of Village Council Presidents is hosting a Regional Energy Workshop on October 3rd, 2016 in Bethel at the Cultural Center. The energy workshop will have federal, state, and regional representative panelists introducing their expertise in the energy infrastructure. The panelists will discuss issues on energy efficiency, energy infrastructure, and workforce development (related to energy). Attendees will have an opportunity for Q&A discussion with the energy panelists for actionable items for energy to be followed up with in 2017.
The morning keynote speaker will be Dave Messier, the Regional Energy Coordinator for the Tanana Chiefs Conference with an overview of the Interior’s energy program success stories, current projects within interior communities, and possible recommendations for our region.
The Federal and State panel will include speakers from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Alaska Energy Authority (AEA) Alaska Industrial Development & Export Authority (AIDEA). Each panelist will provide an overview of their programs regarding energy.
The Energy Technologies & Local Success Stories panel will include speakers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) to speak on what is available for energy technology and our local success stories within Alaska.
There will be guest speakers from NUVISTA and Calista Corp to speak on current regional initiatives. NUVISTA will speak on their Yukon-Kuskokwim Regional Energy Plan while Calista will speak on their recently awarded DOE Intertribal Technical Assistance Energy Provider Network.
The afternoon panel will include representatives from the Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC), NUVISTA, and the Association of Village Council Presidents. The invited speakers include the CEO’s/Presidents (or their appointed representatives) of Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation (YKHC), the Association of Village Council Presidents Regional Housing Authority (AVCP RHA), the Kuskokwim Corporation, Yuut Elitnaurviat, Calista, and our regions CDQ’s: Coastal Villages Region Fund (CVRF), and the Yukon Delta Fisheries Development Association (YDFDA).
There will be time for open discussion between the invited regional entities and the attendees for comments, questions, and to plan actionable items for the following year.
