Vocational Rehabilitation
Vocational Rehabilitation Program is designed to assist people with disabilities to go back to the workforce or to maintain employment. Disabilities may vary including amputations, diabetes, head injuries, learning disabilities, mental illness, orthopedic problems, speech problems, hearing impairments, and developmental disabilities to say a few. |
The services we offer are as follows but not limited to:
- Individual vocational counseling and guidance
- Diagnostic inventory & referrals
- Medical & psychiatric referral services
- Assistive devices such as artificial limbs, hearing aids, wheelchairs, etc.
- Vocational training in schools, colleges
- On-the-job training by correspondence or by tutor
- Licenses, equipment, and tools
- Suitable job placement
- Referrals for independence living services and recreational opportunities
As a brand new program, our main goal is to reach as many people with disabilties in our communities and to be able to assist them in finding jobs, attending vocational training and/or college, so their needs can be met with more support from our Program.
The uniqueness of the Program is allowing clients to use subsistence activities as a means of income/employment. This in turn respects our people and communities, so traditional values may continue. Another important aspect is the relationship with the State of Alaska Vocational Rehabilitation, and how we work together to be more culturally sensitive in meeting our people's needs. This has made our work to be more effective, and useful. This program has been very helpful for numerous people in the AVCP region.
