In Alaska, child care can be difficult to find and expensive for working families.
Did you know AVCP can help you pay for a qualified provider of your choice, to care for your children while you are at work or at school?
The AVCP’s Child Care Program provides a unique solution to addresses the challenges of finding and paying for child care by providing both financial assistance to tribal members, and also by providing employment opportunities for child care providers.
Services are available for children who are 12 years old or younger. Children who have special needs and require additional assistance, are eligible for care up to the age of 19.
We will support your family by:
Conduct site visits at the child care location to inspect for health and safety requirements
Provide support to care providers and families
Recruit program participants and providers
Receive and process both parent and provider applications, monthly timesheets, check requests, and background checks
The AVCP Child Care Program allows for people to work or go to school without worrying about who is watching their children or how they are going to pay for child care.

A: Even if you are not eligible through AVCP Child Care, please contact us and we will help you find services that you do qualify for. Participants must not only be an enrolled tribal member of an AVCP federally recognized tribe, but also must reside in a community that compacts its child care services with AVCP. Also, applicants must be income eligible while either working, attending school or experiencing a medical condition which requires help.
A: First, we will help you with the application process. We will need copies of income verification, state or tribal identification, child’s immunization records and the parent(s’) employment or school enrollment verification documentation.
A: Child care providers are selected by the parents. Your provider could be a relative, or someone else you trust to care for your child. As long as they meet the background check requirements, AVCP can pay them to watch your child. Your child can even be cared for in your own home, as long as the home meets health and safety standards.
A: You are encouraged to still apply. As long as your child is 12 years old when you apply, they will be eligible for the entire year, even after they turn 13.
