The Association of Village Council Presidents seeks a contractor to write and publish a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Service Delivery Guide for AVCP Tribal Communities and Families. Contractor will conduct interviews with approximately 20 AVCP staff and approximately five community organizations to identify and describe how services offered by AVCP prevent or reduce the likelihood of MMIP; identify other community, regional, or statewide services offered in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta; and identify collaboration opportunities between AVCP, tribes, and other organizations. PART 3: Tribal Court Clerks

AVCP’s Tribal Justice Department will be hosting our 2020 TRIBAL COURT MASTER SERIES TRAINING in a four-part series of trainings. Part Three, scheduled for November 17, 18 and 19 at 1pm, will discuss material pertinent and relating to Tribal Courts Clerks in Alaska, and will be held and recorded telephonically via Microsoft Teams.

During the AVCP Tribal Justice Master Series Training Part III – Tribal Court Clerks, we hope that all participants will develop a clear understanding of information and material pertinent and relating to Tribal Courts Clerks in Alaska. The training is open for AVCP Member Tribal Court Judges, Clerks, Court Administrators and Tribal Council Members that act as Tribal Courts and will focus on different aspects and daily duties of Tribal Court Clerks in our Tribal Courts.

This training is going to be recorded and will be available for future use and accessibility through the AVCP website. **Please provide an email address that you have access to personally. Training material and call-in information will be sent to the email address provided**

Registration for the event is due by 11/16/2020 by 2pm.

2020 TRIBAL COURT MASTER SERIES TRAINING

PART 2: Code Development & Drafting

AVCP’s Tribal Justice Department will be hosting our 2020 TRIBAL COURT MASTER SERIES TRAINING in a four-part series of trainings. Part Two, scheduled for July 21 – 23, 2020, will discuss Tribal Court Codes and Development, and will be held and recorded telephonically via Skype.

During this four-part series training, we hope that all participants will develop a clear understanding of everything pertinent and relating to Tribal Courts in Alaska. The training is open for AVCP Member Tribal Court Judges, Clerks, Court Administrators and Tribal Council Members that act as Tribal Courts and will focus on different Tribal Codes utilized in our Tribal Courts. Participants who register will be sent materials, a call-in number and participant code via email prior to the training date to be able access the training.

“The Department of the Interior and the Department of Veterans Affairs will conduct outreach to the eligible individuals. Alaska Native Vietnam Era Veterans do not need to apply immediately for their allotment. Once BLM has worked through all of the processes, Alaska Native Veterans who served during Vietnam Era will be notified to apply.

While that is being done, the BLM, with input from other agencies, potential applicants, and the general public, will draft the regulations that will guide the program and identify public lands that will be available for allotment within 18 months.”

What can I do now?

If you believe that you are eligible under the Act, we encourage you to update your address with the BIA and VA. You can also double check with each agency whether you are listed in their databases as meeting the definition for Alaska Native or Vietnam-era veteran respectively.

Federal Grant Opportunity – Youth Suicide Prevention

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recently released a grant funding opportunity announcement (FOA) entitled, “Garrett Lee Smith State/Tribal Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Grant Program”. The short title for this program is “GLS State/Tribal Youth Suicide” and applications are due no later than Monday, March 18, 2019

Purpose: The purpose of this program is to support states and tribes with implementing youth suicide prevention and early intervention strategies in schools, educational institutions, juvenile justice systems, substance use programs, mental health programs, foster care systems, and other child and youth-serving organizations.
Eligibility: A federally recognized Indian Tribe or tribal organization (as defined in the Indian Self- Determination and Education Assistance Act: 25 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.) or an urban Indian organization (as defined in the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (25 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.) that is actively involved in the development and continuation of a tribal youth suicide early intervention and prevention strategy.
