Personal Statement/Future Plans:
Waqaa! I am Danielle Angilan Lowrey and my parents are Jeff and Sophie Lowrey. I was born and raised in Bethel, AK and am a Tribal member of the Organized Village of Kwethluk. Growing up, Yup’ik values were instilled in my everyday life as I spent most of my time on the Kuskokwim River going camping, fishing, berry picking, flying, and hunting. Those values of respecting and living off the land stuck with me today as I love to spend most of my free time outdoors wherever I may be.
I graduated from Bethel Regional High School in 2016 and continued on to the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, AK. After receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in December of 2020, I started the Fisheries Partners Biologist position at Orutsararmiut Native Council (ONC) in January of 2021. I have worked seasonally as a fisheries technician with ONC for three years and have become familiar with summer fisheries projects that take place. It is with great pride that I am the first Yup’ik Biologist to be represented at ONC. In future years, I plan on continuing my education by pursuing a masters in fisheries. I would like to thank AVCP EET & CC for providing financial support throughout my undergraduate years and assisting in reaching my goals.
